Eye Creams
Why do I need to use an eye cream? I hear you ask.
Well, it’s because the skin around your eyes- especially the eyelids- is very thin. So your eye area shows aging first, meaning consistent use of an eye cream is important. The skin around your eyes is the thinnest in your body and the first to show signs of aging and sun damage.
The skin around your eyes significantly contributes to your overall appearance, and targeted skincare treatments have been shown to enhance attractiveness and boost self-confidence.
Here are three that I recommend. Choose one of these:
1. Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado
This rich cream has avocado oil and shea butter, with no fragrance, so it is unlikely to cause skin irritation. If anywhere is going to develop inflammation from a cream or serum, your eyes will be the first to show it.
Price Range $30-$45
Kiehl’s is good for dry sensitive skin under your eyes. It can be used to moisturize your lips and fingernail cuticles as well. You should pat a small amount on the lower eyelid but no higher than the rim of bone you can feel under your lower eyelid.
2. Olay Eyes Ultimate Eye Cream
This contains peptides, niacinamide and Vitamin C, so it improves several skin problems- dark circles, fine lines, puffiness. It takes 4-6 weeks for maximal improvement and is suitable for all skin types. You can apply this twice a day if needed. Price range $25-$35
3. The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Eye Serum.
This eye serum is popular and affordable at approx. $25.
It is a thin, watery, easy-to-apply serum that is suitable for all skin types.
It contains several peptides that target aged skin around the eyes, while also reducing puffiness and dark circles.
The manufacturers make a point of explaining why this product “comes at a higher price point” because of the number of active ingredients aimed at improving multiple eye concerns.
Proper Technique of Application is Important:
- Use your ring finger, this will be gentlest
- Apply no higher than the top of your orbital bone only -the ridge of bone you can feel at the bottom of your lower eyelid – not directly on eyelid
- Pat, don’t rub – delicate skin tears easily
- Start from the inner corner of your eye and work outward
- Use rice grain-sized amount for both eyes
When to Apply:
- Morning: Lighter formulas, before makeup
- Evening: Richer treatments for overnight repair
- Frequency: Twice daily for best results
Expected Results:
- Hydration: Immediate improvement
- Fine lines: 4-6 weeks for visible reduction
- Dark circles: 6-8 weeks ( don’t forget-genetics have a significant role- if your mother has/ had raccoon eyes ).
- Puffiness: Often improves within days
Additional Eye Care Advice:
- Sleep with your head elevated-this will tend to reduce puffiness
- Use a cold compress in mornings for instant de-puffing
- Wear sunglasses whenever you are outside or driving, to prevent the development of squinting lines
- Remove any makeup gently, try to avoid tugging your eyelid, the skin is thin and easily damaged, it can even bruise with minimal trauma.
Ingredient Effects:
- Caffeine–>reduced puffiness
- Retinol–> smoothing of fine lines (use carefully)
- Hyaluronic Acid–> hydration and plumping
- Peptides–> improved skin thickness and tightness
Cost considerations:
If choosing one: Kiehl’s offers a good balance of effectiveness, gentleness, and value.
Olay provides excellent results for the price, while
The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Eye Serum provides both best value and great results , as do all The Ordinary products
Did you know that you can improve your skin significantly, including around your eyes, by switching from a cotton or synthetic pillowcase to a silk one?
Cotton pillowcases get covered with dead skin cells, oils, saliva, sweat and all sorts of bacteria, making them a dust mite breeding ground and pore-clogging machine. The creams you use at night are less effective because some of them are rubbed away on a cotton pillowcase.
The friction from cotton can irritate your skin, causing it to be dry and creased, while encouraging acne-like breakouts ( due to sweat and oil retention).
Some synthetic satin pillowcases can have a smooth surface, but they aren’t as good for your skin as silk. Silk is a natural fiber that is more breathable, moisture-wicking, and low-allergy
Synthetic satin, on the other hand, may not be as breathable, can trap moisture and heat, and may not be as gentle on the skin.
Blissy silk pillowcase (voted #1 for quality and price) -are made with pure 22-Momme Mulberry Silk – one of the highest weight silks there is – and therefore are the highest quality.
